VISST Cloud Product Summary for Dec 04, 2003

Mission Summary:
Today's ER-2 flight was an AIRS-II "icing" mission over Mirabel. The UND Citation took a well-needed "down day." The ER-2 flight duration was from 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM (local), and no instrument failures were reported. The pilot reported some clouds over land, clear over water, and clear over the flight lines flown at Mirabel (similar to the "9A flight profile"). The clear air over the target was not desirable for the mission science focus, i.e. icing conditions; however, the data set should at least provide a "null case" observed with the same instrument systems for comparison with other flight cases with significant cloud/icing conditions over the ground site. Additionally, the ER-2 pilot reported 4 time periods of turbulence (i.e., 1503-1506, 1511-1517, 1602-1604, 1654-1656, all GMT) during today's flight, which will make the in-situ O3, among other measurements, of particular interest during these times.
