Mission Summary for Nov 26, 2003

The Citation flew from 1633Z until 2001Z for dropsonde releases in conjunction with an AQUA overpass in the Mirabel area. A total of 4 sondes were released in the training area to the north of Mirabel between the times of 1746Z and 1815Z. The clouds were variable below the release altitude of 35,000 ft and the sondes went through different layers during their descents. A descent sounding was done at the end of the drops to compare with the TAMDAR instrument package. The descent sounding was down to about 5,000 ft, which was the top of the lowest cloud layer. The clouds encountered during this flight were composed almost exclusively of ice crystals. There were no significant clouds over the Mirabel site at this time, so the Citation returned to Bangor.
